How resource can/has been used:Previous Use: This has been used at the SON for different courses, specifically, the maternity didactic and clinical courses. The workload estimator improved our organization and student satisfaction with the course.

Description: This workload estimator assesses a course workload. The estimator has a built-in algorithm that estimates the amount of time and work required per semester or quarter hour. Factors used for calculation include: course duration, writing assignments, discussion posts exams, videos, class meetings, and other assignments. Reading assignments are further broken down by page density (words per page), difficulty (new versus familiar concepts), purpose, and estimates a reading rate per hour. The final calculation is three values, total hours per week, independent work (hours per week), and contact hours per week. These totals allow educators to assess whether their workload is appropriate for the course requirements.
